A good primer is a prerequisite for a well-executed painting work and a strong and protective finish. The zinc-based primer from Selder & Co is based on refined linseed oils which gives the unique attributes in terms of drying time, hardening and weather resistance. This linseed oil paint is characterized by low viscosity and high weight, which provides an easy-to-apply yet well-opaque color without the need for dilution. The density varies between 1.8-2.2 kg (3.97-4.85 lbs) per liter, which ensures high proportion of pigments and long durability.

The primer should always be used regardless of whether the surface is untreated or if it has been painted previously. Priming applies regardless of final color. Particularly vulnerable areas like water boards, wind boards, frames, windows and doors should preferably be oiled before the primer is applied.

General information about linseed oil paint
Linseed oil paint is used for painting both indoors and outdoors and can be applied to a wide range of surfaces:

  • Indoors: wood, trim work, door, staircase, moldings, wooden furniture, metal
  • Outdoors: wood facades, plaster, trim work, sheet metal roofs

We do not recommend using linseed oil paint on soft plastic or drywall (walls) that absorb a large amount of paint.

The paint creates a durable and long-lasting surface that is also vapor-open ("breathes"), which is particularly important when working with old buildings. The linseed oil, which is the binder in the paint, is photochromatic, meaning that it yellows slightly on surfaces that receive too little daylight. However, this photochromatic effect is reversible, which means that a surface that has yellowed will regain its original color as soon as it is exposed to daylight. To clean the brushes afterward, we recommend linseed soap; see Related Products.

Note: Linseed oil paint contains linseed oil. Rags and other fibrous material can ignite spontaneously. Soak rags in water and put in a plastic bag and seal well. Alternatively, burn up the rags.
