Facts & Info - Wedge cut floor

Wedge Cut Wooden Floors

Before the mid-19th century, wedge cut wooden floors were common. Subfloors were rarely used, and the floor was laid directly on the joists. The wedge shape was created by utilizing the entire tree trunk, which was wider at the base and narrower towards the top. The wide planks were laid alternately and usually in full lengths, fastened with hand-forged iron nails.

No two wedge cut floors are alike. The wood's natural grain, knots, and not least, width give each plank it's individual character, creating a lively and organic feeling.

Sekelskifte offers custom-made wedge cut pine floors, using slow-grown pine from northern Sweden with varying widths depending on the log's conditions. The thickness varies between 28-30 mm and the lengths are always delivered according to the room's length since wedge floors cannot be joined.
