ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Christine Schaap-Koele moved to Sweden from the Netherlands with her family three years ago. She was already familiar with the AGA cooker but had never encountered a wood-burning stove before. She soon became fascinated by this traditional way of heating the home, cooking, and baking, and began searching for information about stove maintenance and recipes suited to this unique style of cooking. Her discoveries were many: she learned that the AGA cooker had been invented by a Swedish Nobel Prize laureate and that Sweden was home to a large community of passionate users of both AGA cookers and wood-burning stoves. From there, it was only a short step to collecting old recipes, maintenance advice, and interviews with experienced users and technicians, and ultimately bringing them together with historical background and other valuable information in this book.
