Facts & Info - Sand casting

Several of the door handles and fittings we sell are made from old models, some from catalogues or price lists, and others from models found in old buildings. Most of our fittings are sand-casted in the old traditional way. The material is brass, and the alloy is untreated or nickel-plated. Since the brass is untreated, it will darken and age naturally. If you want the fitting to keep its light yellow and shiny surface, just polish it now and then.

When sand-casting, you first make a form of a hard packed blend of sand. Then pour the melted metal into the sand's cavity. Wait for the metal to get solidified before unloading it from the form. The process is done by hand and allows you to make copies of existing items.
