Treat wooden items with linseed oil from Selder! The history of linseed oil dates back to the 17th century when its beneficial qualities were discovered and it began to be used both as an impregnation and as a base in linseed oil paint.
Even today, linseed oil remains popular due to its nurturing properties – treat your everyday wooden items or impregnate your furniture with highly refined linseed oil for protection and luster. Remember to choose the right type of oil depending on what you want to treat. In this post, we use base oil!
Surface Treatment
Provides a superficial protection perfect for your everyday wooden items!
1. Start by ensuring that the surface you want to treat is bare wood and free from previous treatments. For smaller items, it is often enough to sand by hand with suitable sandpaper. We recommend a grit size of 120 to remove old treatments and 240 for a finer surface.
2. Once the surface is smooth, it is time to apply a generous amount of linseed oil, preferably with a brush. Make sure to saturate the surface and let it absorb for about 1-2 hours.
3. After the surface has had a chance to soak up the linseed oil, wipe off the excess with a cloth, and it is ready for use.
Impregnation
Impregnation with linseed oil provides deeper protection and is suitable for treating, for example, countertops and furniture.
1. The first step is again to ensure that the surface to be treated is bare wood for an even result. It is best to use a sander for this. We recommend a grit size of 120 to remove old treatments and 240 - 320 for a finer surface.
2. Heat the oil to 130 degrees for better penetration, preferably in a deep fryer. Apply the oil with a natural bristle brush, repeating until the surface is saturated.
3. Now it is time to work the oil in with the sander. Use a grit size of 320 for this.
4. After working in the oil, wipe off the excess with a cloth.
5. On the second day, you can choose to polish the surface with an Abralon pad and linseed oil varnish, starting with grit size 500 and finishing with 1000. Wait another day to allow the surface to cure before using it!
