Äppelviken – Classic Garden Furniture in 1920s Style

Newly painted and set up at the home of photographer and creative Ebba Barkenbom, just outside Stockholm, stands our new series of classic garden furniture – Äppelviken. Inspired by an original model from the 1920s, Äppelviken evokes memories of the old villa gardens in Bromma – where blooming apple trees, verandas, and woodwork frame the summer season.

Crafted in Sweden from untreated pine, these pieces are the perfect choice for anyone seeking timeless, turn-of-the-century inspired garden furniture that ages beautifully over time. The series includes an armchair, garden sofa, bench and a complete seating group – all with a natural place in both new and historic gardens.

Give your garden furniture a personal touch with linseed oil paint

In her garden, where both house and nature bear beautiful traces of time, Ebba chose to paint the Äppelviken series in a light green shade using linseed oil paint from Selders. This natural paint enhances the grain of the wood and provides lasting protection against the elements.

The colour recalls the first buds of spring and is equally beautiful in dappled garden shade or full sunlight. With gentle brushstrokes and a traditional method, the wood is brought to life. The furniture becomes a natural part of its setting – a seamless transition between garden and tradition, between past and present.

How to paint garden furniture with linseed oil paint

The Äppelviken series is delivered untreated, giving you the freedom to add your own expression. For best results and long-lasting durability, we recommend painting or oiling before using outdoors.

Linseed oil painting tips

Selders linseed oil paint is made from highly refined oils and rich pigments. The result is a durable, easy-to-apply paint with low viscosity and long-lasting finish.

  1. Prepare the surface: The wood must be dry and clean. Avoid painting in temperatures below +5 °C.
  2. Stir thoroughly: Pigments tend to settle – stir until the paint is fully mixed.
  3. Three thin coats: One base layer and two top coats – allow each coat to dry for at least 24 hours.
  4. Maintain the surface: Over time, refresh the surface with a thin layer of linseed oil varnish.

Continue the story

Äppelviken is more than just a furniture series – it’s a continuation of a story. A place for breakfast beneath blooming trees, quiet afternoons with a book in hand, or conversations at dusk. With its classic design and natural materials, Äppelviken becomes a part of your garden’s soul.
