Linseed Soap – How to Use
Linseed soap, also known as flax soap, is a pure natural product free from solvents and artificial additives. It’s an eco-friendly and gentle option for cleaning many types of surfaces. Below are our suggestions for its use:
Treating with Linseed Soap
Wood surfaces are ideal for treatment with linseed soap – whether it’s floors, kitchen countertops, or furniture! A good rule of thumb is to mix 100 ml (about 3.4 fl oz) of soap in a bucket of water. For heavy dirt, reduce the amount of water slightly.
Floors – Linseed Soap Floors
Cleaning floors with linseed soap is both effective and gives a beautiful result while nourishing the wood. It’s ideal for traditional scrubbed floors, but depending on whether the wood is untreated or already finished, different methods should be used.
How to treat untreated scrubbed floors with linseed soap
- Dampen the floor with cold water to prevent stains
- Scrub concentrated linseed soap into the floor
- Allow the floor to absorb and dry
How to use linseed soap on treated wooden floors
- Start by testing a small area (in a corner or inside a closet) to see if the finish reacts to the soap
- Dilute with water and test again if the soap seems too strong
- Scrub the rest of the floor and wipe up any excess liquid
Outdoors – Linseed Soap for Decks, Patios, and Outdoor Furniture
Using linseed soap on decks and other outdoor wooden surfaces such as garden furniture and planter boxes offers many benefits. It cleans without drying out, replenishes the wood’s natural oils, and provides protection – qualities ordinary soap can’t offer!
In the Home – All-Purpose Cleaning
Rich linseed soap mixed with water is perfect for cleaning most household surfaces – from kitchen counters, bathrooms, brushes, and fittings to even being used as a laundry detergent! Mix linseed soap and water in a spray bottle for easier application!
Note that linseed soap should not be used on already linseed-painted surfaces, as it will dissolve the paint.
