The shoemaker pulley lamp is an example of one of the earliest functional lamps. This model began production around 1880. Since light bulbs at that time were very weak, it was practical to pull the light closer when needed. Karlskrona Lampfabrik featured a version of the shoemaker pulley in its first electric-lighting catalog in 1904. Since then, it has remained available in various forms. The model has always been popular, but was especially common up until the 1920s.
