Lim & Handtryck - Wallpaper
What probably makes Lim & Handtryck's wallpapers so beautiful and unique, is that Lim & Handtryck uses handprints, original printing rolls and an over 100 year old surface print machine, to which they are mixing their own linseed oil starched distemper, made of mineral pigments. The result can be seen in the great brilliance of the wallpapers. Our website does not always do justice for these beautiful wallpapers regarding colors and designs, so please come into our store on Vikingagatan in Stockholm and browse in the two wallpaper books Kulturhistorisk bok and Red book.
Frequently Asked Questions
The wallpapers are printed using glue-based paint and are produced in the same way as in the 18th and 19th centuries. Many patterns are printed with original rollers, while others are careful reconstructions. Even today, a glue printing machine over 100 years old—known as the “Rosen machine”—is used, renowned for its precise pattern alignment.
Lim & Handtryck uses a custom-made, matte glue paint supported by linseed oil, tinted with mineral pigments. The paint is free from synthetic additives, and the wallpapers can be wiped clean. The products are of high ecological quality, with nearly all raw materials being renewable.
The workshop houses around 1,500 original rollers and patterns dating from 1770 to about 1950. These include styles from Biedermeier, Karl Johan, Empire, Gustavian, Victorian, Jugendstil, Art Deco, and more. If you find a pattern you like but prefer a different colorway, that's also possible – wallpapers can be tinted to match a color sample or code.
If you wish to use Lim & Handtryck wallpapers in wet rooms, we recommend sealing them in some way. For instance, you can apply a protective lacquer to guard against splashes and moisture. Do keep in mind that the colors may darken slightly due to the lacquer.
Avoid wallpapering directly in exposed areas such as inside the shower or behind the toilet.
We recommend using Lim & Handtryck's own paste, item number 118-190. One package covers approximately 5 rolls (25 sqm).
Any paste residue on the front of the wallpaper should be wiped away with a damp sponge or cloth during installation. The paste is also suitable for other paper-based projects like papier-mâché.
