As you walk through the doorway into an older house, you often become aware of the architectural expression and notice the extra time and effort that has been given to the entrance and stairwells. A room that, in modern buildings, often have had a secondary significance. Around the turn of the century, the stairwells had a central function as a welcoming hall; it also was important to show what status the residents of the house had.
