Border for Herringbone Parquet – Swedish Oak Strip 16x68x204 mm
Border for herringbone parquet made from Swedish oak. Around the turn of the century (1880–1915), herringbone parquet was almost always installed with a border around the room, often complemented by a feature strip between the border and the herringbone pattern itself. This gave the floor a more framed and refined appearance, while also adapting the proportions to the format of the wood strips.
The traditional dimensions varied somewhat, but often followed a clear and well-balanced proportional system that is still used today in renovations and new construction in a classic style. Typical dimensions around the turn of the century were a border width from the wall of approximately 270–340 mm (10.63–13.39 in.), a border board length of around 200 mm (7.87 in.), and a feature strip between the border and the herringbone that often had the same width as the wood strips, approximately 60–70 mm (2.36–2.76 in.). The feature strip is sold separately; we recommend using the strips for herringbone parquet 16x68x408 mm (0.63 x 2.68 x 16.06 in.) (item no. 108-306).
A classic format in older parquet flooring is, for example:
- Strip: 16 × 68 × 340 mm (0.63 × 2.68 × 13.39 in.)
- Border: 16 × 68 × 204 mm (0.63 × 2.68 × 8.03 in.)
- Feature strip: 16 × 68 × 408 mm (0.63 × 2.68 × 16.06 in.)
