Winckelmans Tile Floors

In the latter part of the 19th century, geometric-patterned tile floors began appearing in building stairwells, churches, and the entrances of more elaborate villas. These floors were created following English models and became known as Victorian floor tiles. Besides their beauty, they were discovered to be very practical and durable. Most of the tile floors installed towards the end of the 1800s have survived over a hundred years of use and are likely to last just as long, if not longer. The tiles are made in their own factories using natural materials, primarily clay from France and Europe
