Around the turn of the 20th century, the Jugend (Art Nouveau) style was introduced in Sweden. Homes became airier and brighter thanks to wider and taller windows, window groupings, and a much lighter color palette. This style was the first of its kind and featured a completely new aesthetic inspired by the organic softness of nature.

Rooms
Contrary to previous decades when there was a clear distinction between different types of rooms, people were now starting to view their home as a coherent well-thought-out entity. The Art Nouveau aesthetic became extremely popular in wallpaper designs, featuring long, narrow lines combined with plant motifs directed upwards. The color schemes were green, yellow, and brick red, often with a light background. It was common to see wallpaper finished off with a decorative border between the wall and ceiling.Like in all eras, several older styles coexisted with the new ones, which meant that some apartments still featured more traditional wallpaper patterns, especially tapestry wallpaper with prints,
Woodwork
The walls of the dining room and drawing room were still decorated with paneling in different heights, but they were painted in a lighter color palette, usually in off-white or light gray. Wide sliding doors opened up between the living room and dining room and the woodwork was painted in bright colors inspired by traditional folk style. The doors were usually painted in an off-white color, but in the dining room, they were often made of oak or painted to imitate wood grain.
Flooring
From the 1900s to the 1910s, oak parquet floors in different patterns dominated the fancier rooms, while pine floors covered with linoleum carpets were more common in the rest of the house. Linoleum carpets in bright colors were increasingly used to cover entire floors. They were either printed with elaborate patterns and then varnished or in one color with simpler, more durable patterns.
